A Practical Solution for South America: Building a Reliable Refrigerated Truck

We recently had the pleasure of assisting a client in South America with a rather hands-on project: helping him build up a proper refrigerated truck from the ground up. By combining our K-460 truck refrigeration unit with a specifically sized insulated body (3.2m x 2.2m x 1.8m), we delivered a complete solution that met his needs perfectly. We’re chuffed to say our service and the finished product have earned his high appreciation.

The gentleman in question, let’s call him Chris, runs a small chicken farm. With three trucks at his disposal, he made the sensible decision this year to take control of his frozen meat deliveries himself. He consulted us for expert advice on both the refrigerated truck body and a suitable Truck Freezer Unit. Based on the dimensions of his vehicle, we recommended a 3.2x2.2x1.8 metre insulated body paired with our robust K-460 truck refrigeration unit. A spot-on combination for his requirements.

A Closer Look at the Refrigerated Truck Body

We don’t just supply Truck Freezer Unit; we understand the importance of the box they cool. The body we specified is built to last and perform, with construction details we’re rather proud of:

  • Construction: It uses a sturdy sandwich panel structure of fibreglass + Polyurethane (PU) foam + fibreglass.

  • Insulation: The bottom floor is a substantial 100mm thick, with all other panels at 80mm. The core is a modern PU foam with virtually zero thermal conductivity and a density of 42kg/m³, meeting the stringent AAA standard for insulation.

  • Durability: Both the interior and exterior surfaces are coated with a 2mm thick, hand-laid Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) layer, making it exceptionally hard-wearing.

  • Hardware & Build: All fittings, including the aluminium profile and wrap angles, are made from 304-grade stainless steel for corrosion resistance. The body is securely fixed to a channel steel sub-frame using high-strength adhesive and screws. The panels themselves are manufactured using a German high-pressure vacuum technique.

  • The Result: You get a body that is tight, solid, and boasts very high mechanical strength. It has a smooth, easy-to-clean appearance, is anti-corrosive, shock-resistant, and built to withstand the rigours of daily use.

The Heart of the Operation: The K-460 Refrigeration Unit

The cooling is handled by our dependable K-460 box Truck Freezer Unit. It’s a split-structure unit, driven by the vehicle’s own engine, and is specifically engineered for medium to large trucks with a volume of 15-20m³ or a body length around 5.2 metres. It reliably maintains a broad temperature range from -18°C to +15°C, making it ideal for frozen meat as well as a variety of other chilled goods.

A Smart Approach to Shipping

Understanding that international freight costs are a significant consideration, we put some thought into the packaging. To save our client a considerable amount on shipping, we ingeniously packed the two largest body sections as flat panels (loose plates) and carefully nestled the K-460 refrigeration unit into another moulded box. This efficient packing solution was greatly appreciated by the customer.
