We recently had the pleasure of supporting a customer in Latin America with their refrigerated transport requirements. Their business is in poultry, running a substantial chicken farm, and they manage a fleet of some thirty large trucks alongside eight smaller vehicles. This particular project focused on equipping those eight smaller trucks – each with a cargo box measuring roughly 2.5 metres in length, offering about eight square metres of space – with suitable refrigeration. Their need was to maintain a consistent temperature of 0°C for transporting fresh chicken, ensuring it arrives in perfect condition.
Based precisely on these specifications – the van size and the critical 0°C temperature point – we recommended our direct-drive K-260 Box Truck Reefer Unit. It’s an excellent match for this class of vehicle, designed for cargo spaces between 5 and 10 cubic metres, and offers a robust cooling capacity of 2015W. Small Truck Refrigeration Units are thoughtfully engineered for reliability and ease of use, featuring a multi-function microprocessor controller for precise management, an extra-flat evaporator with an inner-grooved copper tube for efficient heat exchange, and a micro-channel parallel flow condenser. The digital display clearly shows temperature (in °C or °F, as preferred), return air readings, and any configuration parameters or alarms. For peace of mind, it also comes with essential safety devices, including low and high refrigerant pressure protection and thermal protection.
We are delighted to report that the customer has successfully installed four of Small Truck Refrigeration Units K-260 so far and is thoroughly pleased with the performance. Feedback indicates that the cooling effect is "very good," with the unit reaching the required 0°C set point in a very short time. They also highlighted the front-install design, which they found made the installation process quick and straightforward. It’s always gratifying to hear when a solution works so seamlessly for a client. Their satisfaction is such that they have indicated plans to place a repeat order for the remaining units in the near future.
While the K-260 was the ideal fit for this customer's smaller vans, it’s worth noting that our K Series offers solutions across the spectrum. For larger truck models, our best-selling K-460 box truck reefer unit is a formidable piece of kit. It boasts a greater cooling capacity, making it a powerful and often more cost-effective alternative, capable of completely replacing units like the Carrier 350. The K-460 is perfectly suited for larger cargo spaces, typically between 16 and 22 cubic metres.
A key feature across our entire K Series is the optional electrical standby function. This allows the unit to operate on an external power source when the vehicle’s main engine is off – an essential feature for maintaining temperature during extended parking or quiet delivery periods.
