We recently had the distinct pleasure of assisting a client in Southeast Asia with a rather specific and sensitive transportation requirement: the carriage of red wine. Now, as you may know, the climate in that part of the world presents a unique challenge. Situated near the equator, it enjoys—or perhaps endures—a consistently warm climate year-round, with temperatures typically hovering between 25°C and 30°C. Transporting a delicate cargo like wine, which demands a stable, cool environment of around 21°C to preserve its character, is no small feat under such conditions.
This client had previously relied on Carrier 350 units for their fleet. Our task was to provide a robust and superior alternative. The K-460 is a stalwart, split-structure unit, driven reliably by the vehicle's own engine. It's engineered precisely for medium to large trucks, ideally those with a cargo volume of 15~20m³ or a body length around 5.2 metres. Its operational range is impressively broad, capable of maintaining temperatures from a freezer-like -18°C up to a chilled +15°C, making it remarkably versatile.
Its technical prowess lies in the details. Utilising eco-friendly R404a refrigerant, it features super-slim evaporators and advanced aluminium micro-channel parallel flow coils in the condenser. The evaporator itself employs an aluminium foil with an internal ridge copper tube design. This sophisticated engineering isn't just for show; it increases the heat dissipation rate by a notable 30%. The result is exceptional cooling performance, delivering a substantial capacity of up to 3980W. This ensures the unit can hold its set point impeccably, even when the sun is beating down relentlessly outside.
The feedback from our client has been exceedingly positive. Following a straightforward delivery, Box Truck Refrigeration Unit was installed—a front-install configuration they found pleasingly simple to execute. They reported that the cooling performance is "very good," perfectly meeting the precise 21°C requirement for their wine. They were also impressed to find the unit robust enough to handle frozen product transportation, showcasing its admirable versatility. An added, and rather welcome, compliment was paid to its exterior design, which they found to be "very good-looking." It seems efficiency and aesthetics are not mutually exclusive.
A final, crucial feature for their operation is the optional electric standby system (AC 220V/380V). This allows the unit to maintain the perfect temperature even when the truck's engine is off during parking or quiet periods, ensuring the wine's quality is never compromised.
